I'm a woman of my word

On Monday, I did, in fact talk to my train/bus crush.

I got on the crowded bus and sat down right next to him. The bus we were riding was slightly different, it had 2 rows of 2 seats all the way down the bus, as opposed to a large central area for disabled passengers.

"This bus is different today," I said to Mr. Crush.
"What do you mean?" he replied.
"You know, " I said, "usually there are some seats facing this way and others facing the centre of the bus."
"I think this is an older bus, they are running out of busses," he said and kind of laughed.
"Yeah, I guess they're different every day" I said and smiled, and looked anywhere but at him.

Then, I got out some mints and offered him one.
"No, thank you," he said politely.

I got a vibe from his tone and body language that he is not one to have conversations with strangers on the bus, so I stopped talking and put on my headphones and listened to music the rest of the way to the train station.

At the platform I did not see him (we get off at different bus stops to get to the train), so that was that.

Well, it wasn't exactly violins and roses, but it was a start. Now he will likely recognize me on our commute and if he wants to talk to me he can.

At least I won't return to the US thinking "If ONLY I had tried to talk to Mr. Crush!!"

I have much more to talk about, including my Sunday adventures with meat pies and my new favorite band.

But I am sleepy and watching Rove Live, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

and and? have you talked to mr. crush yet?

i still find a steady gaze for a day or two a pretty nice ice breaker. it let's him know you're 'welcoming', as my friend creampuff likes to say, without being pushy.

did i say that already?

YAY! I have actually been addicted to your Mr. Crush saga, checking your blog, hoping you would fall madly in love with him.

At least you accomplished your goal! Keep us posted on any new developments!

And hurry back to the states!

Bummer, I was hoping he'd give you a passionate kiss.

Don't you just hate it when you gather all your resolve and expectations for something and but then nothing exciting happens? I hope there's better luck tomorrow.

i guess that's what i get for reading your blog first thing in the morning. somehow, i was sure the end of the entry which i was reading was the SAME end of that last entry.

doh!

good job, rah rah! and glad to see you were speaking to him in australian instead of american (centre).

it is just those little conversations which really start it. one of my friends now is a woman i met on the train over a year ago. we were both knitting and i asked her what she was making. she seemed really unwilling to be bothered, but the more we saw each other the more we chatted. Yay for first steps!

Thanks for all the support! I reckon that at least now I won't feel silly smiling at him when I see him again, which will be whenever my schedule permits me to actually make it onto the 5pm bus. I'll definitely keep you posted!

"New favorite band"? What's with that?

By the way, the chili cook-off was great! But I didn't get to go ice skating.
