"One thing I look forward to about returning to the U.S. is having lighter pocket change," I said to a coworker the other day.
"You don't have as much change in America?" She asked.
"Well, the coins are lighter and there are fewer of them. We only really use quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies," I replied.
"You STILL have pennies?" she asked, giving me a 'that is SO 1992' look.
"Yep."
"So when something is $5.99, and you pay $6, you get a penny back?" she asked.
"Yep."
"Wow."
Wikipedia entry about Australian coins, if you're curious.

so what happens there if something is 5.99? or is nothing 5.99? i figured they'd just start rounding up to the nearest .05.
Dude, she's right. Pennies are lame.
They round up to the nearest $0.05.
