Friday night fun

This week has flown by.

It's weird because right now I don't have a job or any real daily responsibilities, and yet I feel like I have been just as busy this week as I have been for the last several months.

I am sure it is because I am working on the long, long list of things that I've had to put off during my dissertation writing and move, and also because now I am preparing to move across the sea.

I've managed to go through a good amount of my belongings, and now only have a few more boxes to go through. I also plan to get my computer cleaned up enough so I have enough memory free to defragment the hard drive. I seriously was down to 16MB of free memory on my 80GB hard drive. I gotta get that under control!

Despite the dodgy internet connection at chez hamsterdad (for some reason, none of the WPA keys I have for the wireless work, and it randomly becomes an unlocked network and then a locked network again when someone gets on the main computer...yet no one has any clue about it...odd) I have managed to finish uploading my pictures from my drive from PA to NV.

Here is my favorite pic from the trip:

pink fluffy sunset

As I crested a hill driving West on I-40 in New Mexico, the sun just reached under the clouds making this faboulous sunset shot. I knew I was on my way back to the desert where I was born. It was amazing.

The next day the zombies and I decided to go to the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest National Park:

zombie group photo!!!

I forgot about the intensity of the desert sun as I drove around the park with my windows open. But I soon was reminded of my own lack of planning to wear sunscreen:

oops! forgot sunscreen!

Oddly, that arm didn't actually start peeling until after I got back from Burning Man, over a week later. Apparently a coat of playa dust and a week of not having real running water showers will delay sunburn peeling. I know, that's hot.

I made it home and within 24 hours got all of this crap out of my car:
The car was pretty full

not only was the car full, but the trunk was also chock full of stuff. This plus the 15 boxes I mailed myself, there was tons to go through this week.

After getting home and unpacking the car, sparkle arrived the next day and we prepared for our trip to burning man!

You can see all of the cross-country adventure pictures here.
You can see the burning man pics and videos here, and the stories will come soon!

Also, I got some videos from way back up, you can see them here.

Now I have to get back to watching the crazy-ass weather reporters in Texas commenting on Ike. Why are they there? My heart is in my throat waiting for debris to hit some poor meteorologist upside the head.
