Vegas adventures pt. 3: The Reunion

Car crisis resolved, all is well, so now back to the regularly scheduled programming..

Saturday night was the reunion!

And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
In some ways, it was lame ($6 beers, mediocre food), but on the whole it was a great time. I think only about a quarter of the graduating class was there, most of them still living in Vegas or the west coast (mostly in SF or the pacific northwest). There was at least one couple from high school that got married. It surprised me that high school sweethearts still got married in this day and age, especially in this day and age in Las Vegas. Most people were engaged or married, and many had kids.
There was much catching up, a good proportion of the attendees were doctors or in medical school. There were nurses and lawyers an a fair amount of people working in the hotel/casino industry.
After dinner there was a raffle, with prizes going to the following people:

Most kids (4, yikes!)
Most jobs held in the last 10 years (10, I believe)
Person who has lived the furthest away for the longest period (a few years in Singapore)
And,
The longest time spent in school (me!)
Yes, folks, the highlight of the reunion was that I won a gift card to Target for being in school the longest at 10 years! Ding ding ding! It was actually a tie between myself and someone getting an M.D. Ph.D presently, but I won the rock-paper-scissors match for the prize! Woo hoo!

Some people looked exactly the same, others had changed drastically. I was mostly surprised at the number of people that remembered me and details about my life and plans (asked me about my mom, my old neighborhood which is gone, and going to school in TX), while I struggled to remember who they were and how I knew them in high school.

My favorite conversation from the reunion was:
former classmate: Every time I see you, you have a new beer in your hand
me: You're damned right.

Cheers to the class of '95!
