One of the perks about spending the January in Australia (other than escaping winter) is having an extended birthday!
See, yesterday was my birthday (here in Australia), and today is my birthday (in the U.S.).*
My birthday adventures began yesterday with a perfectly timed text message from Sparkle and a well-timed email from mom.
Then I went to the beach and spending the hot (it got up to about 106 F) day at the beach. I got off the train, walked across the street to the beach, set my stuff down and went straight into the water. Best. Idea. Ever. So refreshing, and even though the sand was so hot I am surprised it didn't turn to glass, it was great. My first beach birthday!
That night my Aussie friend from the lab took me out for drinks with some of her mates to celebrate. We went out to a bar in St. Kilda, had some great beer, and listened to some good live music! A few of the mates went to get dinner before joining us at the bar, and when they arrived, they surprised me with a little lemon tart with a candle in it! I was touched and happy, and the tart was delicious!
Then, today when I woke up I got a lovely birthday email from Mack, and a happy birthday phone call from my dad!
And now I am going to meet some Melbourne knitters at my first Stitch n Bitch meeting here!
Yay extended birthday!
*I know that if I do the math, technically it was Jan. 22nd in Australia when I was born on the 21st in Las Vegas, but it says the 21st on my IDs, so dammit I celebrate on the 21st wherever I am!
