Melbourne Aquarium

Hi there (and a special welcome to my aussie friends to whom I finally remembered to send this link)!

hi there

On Sunday I went to the Melbourne Aquarium.

I had been to this aquarium before, and loved it. The displays are gorgeous, especially the jellies.

But, this time, there was a new exhibit which drew me back to the aquarium. A giant monster from the deep, a giant squid!!! Augh!!! GIANT SQUID!!!!
Apparently the aquarium aquired the body of a giant squid found by a fishing vessel, encased it in ice, and put it on display for the world to see!! As you can see, I was very excited about the GIANT SQUID.

GIANT SQUID

Amazing!! It's 7 metres long*!!!
I've heard that the eye is fake, that it had to be replaced because of decomposition issues during freezing.

After gazing in awe at the giant squid, I made my way to the walk-through aquarium area. And, as luck would have it, it was feeding time!

it's feeding time

The fish were swarming around the diver who was giving then their snacks. There was much tension in the tank, like something was about to go down. I could smell revolution through the glass.

It was then that the ray decided to make his move!!

attack of the ray

It's people!! The fish snacks are made of people!!! Augh!!!!

Unfortuneatly, the fish coup was unsuccessful.

Vive le resistance poisson!

*actually, I kind of expected it to be bigger. I think because I have seen too many sci-fi movies in my day, but still that's the biggest damn squid I'll ever see!
