shocker

Yesterday I learned that Aussies don't really eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

In fact, some think it sounds disgusting.

This blows my mind.

I mean, what is peanut butter for if not to go with jelly?

I found the same in England. But peaut butter in England was also pretty gross- all grainy and not smooth and/or creamy at all! I had my mom send me some JIF to spread true PB&J love around the world..

Peanut butter + jelly = evil...

I remember my first experience eating it. I was at Disney World in Florida, and I was seven years old. My mom bought us a sandwich for lunch, and when I took a bite out of it there was this pasty, goey, digusting thing mixed with jelly. I sometimes have backflashes of that awful moment.

It was just an odd discongruency, a complete mismatch. For example, would you ever eat fish with fruit jelly? If not, then why would you eat peanut butter with jelly?

i thought everyone knew ausies didn't eat peanut butter.

when i lived in england we went to the american store a few towns over every month or so to stock up on grape jelly, oreos, and american style peanut butter.

although, i find peanut butter and butter to be a very yummy combo.

I thought peanut butter was meant to be eaten straight out of the jar on a spoon? or were we just to poor to afford the bread and jelly?

See, the thing is, that Aussies DO eat peanut butter, and their peanut butter is just like American peanut butter (creamy and delicious, not grainy and yucky at all). Peanut butter and honey is the norm, and, of course PB on its own. So I wonder, why not with jam? It's a lovely mix of the salty and sweet.

Fede's comment has made me think that maybe it's another Southern Hemisphere thing, like the spiders. But, Fede, I think I actually WOULD eat jelly with fish, if it were the right kind of jelly. It's like mint jelly and lamb. I never thought to put jelly on lamb, but it's quite tasty!
