jerky and patriotism (Best Vacation Ever Day 5)

On Day 5, I spent the day with my good friend JayAre. We had an awesome time because, that's just how we roll.

Our adventures started at PetsMart, where we got treat bags for her and her husband to wear in the training of their dog (or at least, that was THIER story), and she picked up a cool new fish.

But it wouldn't fit in the tank.

Since the doggie treats looked suspiciously like beef jerky, we decided to play a trick on her husband. We put doggie-treat jerky in the big pocket of the treat bags, and then put people-treat jerky in the small pocket, with the idea that at some point in the evening JayAre and I would give each other treats for sitting or staying. Then hubby would think that we were eating dog treats and hilarity would ensue!
But, before the fun could begin, JayAre decided to try the beef jerky that had been in her cupboard for awhile:

JayAre: I am going to try the jerky. (puts a piece in her mouth) Ugh! It's really hard.
Me: Do you know how old it is? What's the expiry?
JayAre: Hm. I threw the bag away but let me check the other bag thats in the cupboard, I got them at the same time.
Me: (watching her check the other pack) What does it say?
JayAre: Oh! It says October 2004! (spits out jerky)

So we decided not to play the trick on her husband, but man it would have been funny!
At least to us.

Later we went to Razoo's for dinner, where I got my fried-pickle fix. (They are SO GOOD!) While driving home we noticed some fierworks going off in the sky nearby (it was July 2nd). I was overcome by patriotism and started singing the first few bars of "You're a Grand Old Flag", as is my patriotic wont. To my surprise and delight, JayAre and her hubby joined right in and we heartily sung the entire song.

This is why JayAre and Mark are the coolest and most fun married couple that I know.

Usually when I spontaneously break into song people just look at me like I am crazy, laugh, or cross the street to avoid me. Rarely does anyone actually join in and know all the words to the song.

It *is* a grand old flag, it's a high flying flag.

My friends are AWESOME!!!!

I think YOU are awesome... I loved your "Best Vacation Ever" series, but I missed you. Is it over or is there more to tell? It was sad to see you go right after you come back from Down Under.
