Sanestperson finds this amusing, since while at college, I went to 1 football game, and never tailgated. I told her I like to change things up a bit every now and then.
Besides, the group I tailgate with is pretty awesome. There is a lot of quality meat around. The food's not bad either.
This past weekend was Big Rivalry Game! And, for the first time, I followed the tailgate gang to an away game for the Biggest Tailgate of the Year!! About 30 people, 2 grills, and a turkey fryer. People were bound to get hurt.
I decided to make the most surprisingly delicious fried thing I have ever had-deep fried corn on the cob! I tried this at the Dixie Cafe in Little Rock, AK about 7 years ago and have been itching to try making it myself.
And I knew that none of these Northerner's would think of deep fried corn on the cob, so I wouldn't be bringing the same thing as anyone else.
We arrived at the site around 8am, got everything set up and made some breakfast:

mmmmm.....French toast sticks!! They went surprisingly well with beer and steak.
By about 8:30am things were in full swing:

I started making the corn:

Do you see that amazing thing I floured the corn in? Why yes, it is Batter Pro! As seen on TV! It breads things in SECONDS! It was on sale for $4, I had to get it for the Big Tailgate! And no, my friends, it is not a uni-tasker, I have already used it for non-batter-related activities (I'll tell you about it tommorrow).
Here they are ready for the fryer:

And here they are too hot to eat:

Don't they look delicious? They sure did taste delicious. The idea of deep fried corn on the cob was intimidating to some, but those brave souls that tried it, liked it. So if you are looking for a fried side vegetable to go along with your deep fried turkey this Thanksgiving, I recommend corn on the cob!
Later in the morning, I was trying to open a bottle of beer with a bottle-opener, and apparently the fried veggies gave me Super Strength. A good bit of the top of the bottle came off with the cap, and gouged a couple holes in my finger:

THE HORROR!!!
After some pressure and a band-aid, all was fine again.
The game was exciting for the first 10 minutes or so, while we were winning, and then ultimately disappointing when we lost miserably.
All in all it was a fantastic day, and a good end to a season of great tailgates. I hope to be a part of them again next year.
