Oh my goodness the holiday weekend has been a busy one! With much good food, many good people, and not nearly enough sleep.
My family is pretty dispersed, so Thanksgiving was never a giant get-together for me, and I've only spent one of the last 10 thanksgivings with any of my family. I usually spend the holiday with someone else's family. I have been incredibly lucky to have friends whose families have welcomed me into their homes.
This year I ate with Angrynerdsrock. She comes from an Italian family, and the meal with them was a marathon of food. In total there were 7 courses spanning 8 hours.
All the food was so good. So good. Each course was like a meal of its own.
I ate and ate and ate and ate. There was usually a good hour between courses, which made me foolishly think that my stomach was much bigger than it actually is.
The last few bites of the main meal exceeded the maximum capacity of my stomach, and shortly after we all rolled away from the table, I threw up.
It's true. For the first (and hopefully last) time in my life, I ate so much food that I got sick. It was not intentional in any way, and no one else got sick, so it wasn't bulimia, or salmonella, just poor portion control.
I felt like an glutton at the peak of decadence during the Roman Empire, or the quintessential fat American. Oh, the shame. I was so embarrassed. Luckily I was sick in the privacy of the bathroom. So I could add 'not vomiting in the living room of people I just met' to the list of things I am thankful for.
By the time I got home, it was about midnight. Just enough time for a quick nap before taking part in some Black Friday shopping MADNESS!!!!
