What with all the snow and all I forgot that it was a special day today. It wasn't exactly the most romantic day here at chez hamster_grrl. I think the highlight of the day was that I spent a good 20 minutes digging myself out of my parking spot at my apartment, braved some craptastic roads to get to work, did what I needed to do, came back on slightly better roads, and then found that I had to dig myself back IN to my parking space (yes, the same one). Then I took a nap.
The nap was the best part.
But I digress, Valentine's day season is also V-Day season! V-Day is the worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls around the world. Performances of Eve Ensler's play, the Vagina Monologues are performed and the proceeds go to charities that help women and girls. This year I am part of the cast at the university (performing the monologue, "because he liked to look at it"). I feel proud to be a part of this amazing cast and to have the opportunity to be a part of something that is so much bigger than just me and my grad student existence. I highly recommend the show to anyone and everyone. And, with performances by hundreds of civic and university theaters, there are likely several performances in your area. Happy V-day!
